Training of Tax officials – Probationers learn about Philanthropic Environment

Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy held an interactive workshop at Directorate of Training (DOT), Lahore to interact with the (under training) tax officials. Ms. Shazia Maqsood Amjad, Executive Director, PCP apprised the participants about the philanthropic environment in the country. Matters pertaining to NPOs’ taxation were elaborately explained.  Mr. Aftab Alam, Director of the academy, talked about the memorandum of understanding between Federal Board of Revenue, Government of Pakistan and Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy. Copies of the tax guides on NPO taxation were also shared with the probationers.


CSOSI Index 2019 – Experts reviewed Country’s Philanthropic Landscape

Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy (PCP), as a local implementing partner, has been convening panel meetings and compiling reports on Civil Organizations Sustainability Index for last six years. Report are drawn based on the scores and opinions expressed in the experts panel meeting. CSOSI 2019 is the latest in the series and a meeting in this regard was held in Islamabad. Senior officials from CSO sector participated in the exercise.  


 

Social Welfare Officers apprised about PCP Certification Standards

Collaboration with various departments and officials of federal and provincial governments has been an ongoing activity at PCP. Certification unit regularly conduct sessions to inform and sensitize Government Departments and NPOs about PCP Certification standards, their responsibilities, and compliance requirements regarding the taxation laws in Pakistan. In keeping with this, PCP conducted orientation session at Social Welfare Training Institute, Lahore. The session was attended by Social Welfare Officers serving in various districts of Punjab.


PCP Continues with its Efforts to Create Awareness on AML/CFT

 

In order to apprise NPOs about the matters pertaining to Pakistan’s commitments related to anti-money laundering and terrorist financing (AML-TF) under FATF and resolutions passed by United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy, Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) continued with its efforts to create awareness among NPOs.  Since the start of 2020, awareness session were conducted in Sialkot, Gujranwala, Mianwali, Peshawar, Sahiwal, Multan and Charsadda.


Academia eager to play its role in the promotion of Philanthropy in Pakistan

 

Research Program forms an integral part of the Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy (PCP). With a mandate to generate research based evidence and thereby bridge the knowledge gap on the discourse of philanthropy, Research Unit of PCP completed researches on philanthropy by the local corporate sector and the diaspora overseas. Findings of these studies were shared with the academia and students in Islamabad. A number of such sessions were held at various academic institutions including Hamdard University, PIDE, Qauid-e-Azam University and Bahria University.   


Innovative Financing Committee meeting held at PCP

The Planning Commission has constituted a Committee on Innovative Financing in September 2019 under the Ehsaas Program, which has been tasked with exploring innovative financing tools, mechanisms and models to supplement government’s budgetary resources for improved development impact. PCP has been nominated as a member of the this Committee and has also been designated as Convener of the Social Sector sub-group of the Committee to explore innovative financing models for improving outcomes in the social sector, including education and health. As focal person from PCP, the Head of Research has been leading the activities of the Social Sector sub-group and two meetings of the sub-group have been convened in January and February this year to explore the different options and recommendations in this regard are being finalized for presentation to the Committee. 


PCP Communication Unit Introduced new products

Communication and Outreach unit has introduced a number of new products to promote the good work of its certified organizations. These products include news PCP Updates, Video Interviews of CEOs, Facebook live with PCP staff, glimpses of field visits by PCP team etc.

 

Three Video Documentaries in the Making – Stay Tuned!

PCP Communication team signed contracts with Agahe Pakistan, Agahe and Pakistan Kidney Centre Abbottabad for the production of video documentaries about their programmes in Vehari, Muzaffargarh and Abbottabad respectively. All the three would soon be shared on social media pages of PCP.
