Youth Philanthropy in Pakistan – PCP’s Report is Coming Soon 

 

Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy has completed a report on youth initiatives in Pakistan, which highlights important youth philanthropic initiatives, contributing towards the achievement of SDGs in the country. The study also situates youth philanthropy in the global context by tracing its evolution over the recent past and identifies best practices with regards to the design of effective youth philanthropic initiatives. Report will be launched in June 2020


Report on Civil Society Sustainability Index 2019

 

The CSO Sustainability Index (a project of USAID) for Asia reports on advances and setbacks in seven key dimensions affecting the sustainability of the CSO sectors in nine countries: Bangladesh, Burma, Cambodia, Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. For the compilation of report on Pakistan for 2019, PCP is the implementing partner which conducted assessment through consultation with civil society, academia and relevant government departments and shared the findings with the international team. Report for CSOSI 2019 is being reviewed by the experts and would hopefully be launched in the later half of the year 2020.


Institutional Philanthropy for SDGs: Case Study of PCP Certification Program

 

This study by PCP, which is in the final stages of completion, showcases the role of the PCP Certification Program in promoting quality assurance and best practices in the non-profit sector in Pakistan. It examines the evolution of PCP’s certification program and the improvements that have been made over the years. It also presents an analytical overview of the portfolio of certified CSOs including their governing legislation, employment size, size of operations, SDGs supported, as well as geographical dispersion. The performance of CSOs, in terms of their evaluation scores across various dimensions is also examined.


What influences Giving in Pakistan? PCP would be Sharing Soon!

 

This study presents an in-depth examination of factors influencing monetary giving in Pakistan, using data from the nationwide Survey of Individual Philanthropy, conducted by PCP some years back. The study presents descriptive analysis of different household demographic and socio-economic factors on monetary donations and makes use of multivariate modeling techniques to identify the important drivers of household monetary giving in Pakistan.

 


PCP Continues to Connect Donors with the Certified Network

PCP in collaboration with Give2Asia (G2A) is connecting with and facilitating donors to support the communities impacted by Covid-19 through its network of certified NPOs. Over the past few weeks, our generous corporate donor, PepsiCo Foundation, has pledged additional US$156,000 to support epidemic response efforts in Azad Kashmir region through PCP Certified NPO namely National Rural Support Programme (NRSP) and Gilgit Baltistan region through PCP Certified NPO namely Mehnaz Fatima Educational & Welfare Organization (MFEWO).

As a result of another round of call for proposals, PCP Certified NPO namely Health Education & Literacy Programme (HELP) working on “Provision of Safe Drinking Water to Rural Communities through Installation of Hand Pumps” in Nausharo Feroz Region, Sindh has availed the grant amounted to PKR 2.2 million.

Behbud

A Corona Fund was set up with the objective of providing food ratio ns to the families of Behbud school’s children, teachers, poor patients benefiting from its health services and to its workforce of over 4,000 craftswomen, spread out in Swat, Islamabad, Gujar Khan and Rawalpindi’s urban slums.

 

Rural Aid Pakistan

responding the COVID-19 in Narowal, Sahiwal and Nankana Sahib. It engaged 258 youth volunteers in Awareness Raising campaign about the prevention of Coronavirus and Rights Protection.

 

Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund

has committed Rs. 400 million for its COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund. It is supporting communities in the 20 poorest districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and Balochistan with economic revival interventions including ration packs, agricultural and livestock inputs and providing personal protective equipment to medical facilities.

 

The Hunar Foundation

Trustees and donors engaged industry professionals to develop and manufacture over 10,000 Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) for the safety and security of doctors and paramedic staff.  It has distributed ration bags to over 1100 families in Karachi, Lahore, Multan, TandoAllahyar & Kharian.

 

TCF

has launched a Rs 500m Covid-19 Response Appeal to rekindle hope in these dark times. The programme aims to provide cash relief (or rations) to support thousands of distressed households identified nationwide through TCF’s own staff and alumni, provide protective gear to frontline healthcare workers and to ensure continuity of learning to students currently forced to stay out of school.

 

Rahnuma Public School,

will be distributing XO laptops and USB sticks to children from year 1 to 9, to work with at home. It plan to distribute weekly nourishing food supplies to children as well.  

 

MERF is managing 14 hospitals under Public Private Partnership in Sindh and KP and is providing screening and triage services, 103 bedded Isolation facilities in 03 DHQ level hospitals, 03 Emergency and High Dependency Units, MERF is also carrying out mass public awareness campaign with support from UNICEF in Merged Districts of KP.

 

PPHI has partnered with Health Department Government of Balochistan in activities initiated for control of Covid-19 in Balochistan for establishment of Quarantine and Isolation wards, case detection and dispatch of medical teams for sample collection for Corona test.

 

Ihsan Trust, so far distributed ration packs of around 14 Million Rupees to 10,000/- families in the categories of Charity/Donation and Zakat.

 

SPARC staff donated percentage of April salaries for assistance to Covid affected families and raised PKR 2, 12,000 to be utilized in day to come. It also distributed ration packs among families in Rawalpindi, Karachi

 

Shahid Afridi Foundation, is raising awareness for the precautions, established an isolation center in SFCH Kohat and has provided  food packages and hygiene kits to over 25,000 households across Pakistan to households struggling because of the lockdown through #DonateKaroNa initiative.

 

Human Health Welfare & Research Association (H-WRAP) has distributed the IEC material and has distributed ration packs among 100 families and distributed sanitizers among 500 shop keepers.

 

Baidarie Sialkot has provided 260 Face shields, 1500 face masks & 50 bottles of sanitizers to health care facilities and food stuff parcels at doorsteps of 140 poor women. Shortly, the organization will deliver hygiene packs and food parcels at the houses of 300 poor women.

 

The JAQ Education Trust has supplied monthly rations to over 700 needy families in Islamabad’s katchi abadis. Alumni are volunteering their time to teach students in their communities, under teacher guidance, while maintaining social distance, to ensure children continue learning.

 

Afzaal Memorial Thalassemia Foundation provided PPE during transfusion daycare, OPDs and blood drives and has made 25-30 blood drives.

 

DOST Foundation has extended its services for the vulnerable groups in the Criminal Justice System (CJS) in response to the “Go Pakistan” call for emergency support in COVID-19 crisis.  The goal of the project is to prevent the outbreak of Coronavirus among inmates and staff of five main Prisons of KP, including Peshawar, Haripur, Bannu, Mardan and Mansehra.

 

Feba Communication Trust has supported around 100 families with Food packages, Masks, Gloves, Hand sanitizers and financial assistance of Rs.4000/- per family in Muzaffarabad, Attock, Abbottabad, Rawalpindi And Gujranwala.

 

Cadet College Hasanabdal, started online classes via Google Meet and covered 35% of the course during last 1 and a half month. Online classes resulted in enhanced IT capabilities of our faculty and satisfaction of the parents.

 

BRSP with the financial assistance of multiple donors, reached up to 5.65 million people in 27 districts of Balochistan. It provided 111,529 Surgical Masks, 4,578 N95 Masks, 27,378 Sanitizers, 26,280 Gloves, strengthened WASH services at 57 public places and health facilities, linked 36,000 HHs with Ehsaas Emergency and other programmes.

 

Salik Development Foundation supported 8,175 beneficiaries by providing them Essential Food, Hygiene Items, awareness campaign and linkages developed among Donor and health department for the benefit of Marginalized families of KPK (District Mardan & Swabi), AJK (District Muzaffarabad) and GB (District Diamer).

 

Area Development Organization supported 225 poor and women headed families’ one month ration/food items full packages in Muzaffarabad.

Bunyad Literacy and Community Council has distributed 4200 Bags, a cash grant of PKR 1000 to 50 families, cooked Food to  100  labourers on daily basis.

Hope Uplift Foundation's provided medical equipment to healthcare service providers. The equipment included ventilators, ICU beds, monitors, surgical Masks and PPE. It also distributed 3500 + Ration packs

 

Community Support Concern (CSC) and CSC Empowerment and Inclusion Programme, provided economic relief to its clients by deferring the installment for the month of April. Ration drive is also being carried out in collaboration with our donor Bread for the World (BROT) to provide relief to the most affected persons of the society.

 

Gatron Foundation, donated an amount of Rs.1,000,000 to Lasbela Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and another Rs.345,000 to Indus Hospital to procure Safety Kit for Doctors.

FDO is striving to prevent the risks of COVID-19 pandemic in District Muzaffargarh & Multan through awareness raising sessions, Distribution of Hand Sanitizers, Soaps, Masks, Gloves, IEC material, IVR & Text messages, so far facilitated 1,36,377 ultra-poor communities living in both rural & urban areas via close coordination with Govt.

 

Ameer Begum Welfare Trust, has distributed a total of 1000 Ration Packages in Lahore and in villages across Okara and has been distributing 300 Iftar boxes daily in a socially distant manner outside the ABWT head office, and to patient’s families and staff members at the following hospitals in Lahore:

 

WESS, conducted awareness sessions in refugee villages with 340 community members, rehabilitated 15 Hand pumps and distributed 150 PPE kits.

 

JPSD, has distributed ration bags, installed sanitizers gates, donated ventilators to Indus hospital

 

Makkah Foundation and The Punjab School Welfare Trust provided safety material including face masks, hand sanitizers and ration bags to 327 families.

 

Organization for Development and Peace, has incorporated an awareness message in “On-airing Human Rights Messages through local TV Cable Networks” It has also distributed food ration to 10 Christian families in Multan.

 

Institute of Policy Reforms has issued reports and fact sheets on COVID 19. Chairperson IPR has written newspapers columns.

 

Mojaz Foundation, has distributed; 480 Ration bags, 1300 Pamphlets, 2250 Face masks and 700 Sanitizers. MF helped 2300 households in their registrations for EHSAS Emergency Cash Program.

 

Fazilia Trust Pakistan, carried out a “food for all” drive and distributed 1450 ration packages in Dhirkot AJK, Taxilla, Rawalpindi and Lakki Marwat. FTP also assisted civil administration, law enforcement agencies and frontline workers in awareness raising and food distribution during this time of distress.

 

Konpal, Child Abuse Prevention society, supplied essential ration items to over 400 children and families in Karachi.It also carried out awareness campaign.

 

Brooke Pakistan is making sure that maximum number of equine owning communities are linked with interventions like rations distribution for humans and animals, veterinary health services are available for sick animals, linkages are made with government and other humanitarian orgs so that these communities are not left out in this time of need; and they get the help and care when they need the most.

 

Attock Refinery Limited, has earmarked a quarantine area at the Company Hospital.

 

APWA Raana Liaquat Craftsmen Colony Project is focusing on wellbeing of beneficiaries, facilitating artisans, synchronizing with authorities & optimizing transparency. MCH & mental health clinic is providing telemedicine services. Ration distribution is also part of the response activities.

 

All Pakistan Women’s Association (APWA) has reached out to around 3000 families all over the country. China has donated 20,000 masks to APWA for health workers.

 

Rural Community Development Society (RCDS), has distributed sanitizers, face masks, gloves and Personal Protective Equipment and dry food ration packages in the Covid-19 prone areas of district Nankana Sahib.

 

Help International welfare Trust, opened an Emergency Kitchen to feed the poor and 2000 food packs on daily basis were delivered in different areas of Karachi.

 

A leading engineer of Pakistan Academy of Engineering (PAE), has developed a Hypothesis based on National and International data on Corona that has a definite potential to reduce the deaths of patients nationally and internationally.

 

Muhammad Foundation Trust (MFT), has established two designated isolation wards in the MTF’s hospitals for the possible COVID-19 patients. MTF also provided food packages to the local community.

KnK Japan has been working determinedly to provide the health equipments to health staff working in different hospitals and Quarantine centers established by Government of Pakistan (GOP). KnK Japan has already handed over the requisite health equipments and protective kits to “King Abdullah Teaching Hospital Mansehra and Ayub Medical Complex (AMC) Abbottabad. The total cost of these medical equipments and protective gears is PKR 500,000 which has been managed through the donation of People of Japan.

Qarshi Foundation established online / on call facilitation Desk to guide the others about how to respond to this emergency. It has also provided 3,700 Ration packs to the peoples affected by the lock down.

Innovative digital learning solutions were introduced by Idara-eTaleem-o-Aagahi (ITA) in the area of assessment, tech enabled learning along with life skills and empowerment.

Rupani Foundation distributed 170 tons of food items in three provinces of Pakistan.

The Liaquat National Hospital established 34-bedded Covid Ward which includes ICU, HDU and ventilators.

Organization for Social Development Initiatives (OSDI) received a donation of 536 ration bags from Robinhood Army for the vulnerable families of district Lasbela (Baluchistan), Mardan (KPK) and Thatta (Sindh). OSDI also distributed 65 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) suits received from Asim Jofa for the safety of medical staff working in the rural hospitals.

Progressive Education Network (PEN) has distributed food rations among 11,100 low-income families. In addition, PEN is regularly supplying Personal Protective Equipment,  including masks, gloves, body suits, sanitizers and goggles, to 60 hospitals in 34 cities of Pakistan.
