Impact assessment handbook: A practical guide for non-profit organizations
|
PCP has prepared a handbook in collaboration with the School of Education,
Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) to educate NPOs on how to
evaluate and quantify the outcome of their work in social sector programs. This
study, a first of its kind provides a comprehensive understanding of the
formalized process of decision-making and planning activities for assessing the
potential effects of a program. This guide will help the project managers, NPOs,
students and other stakeholders to assess and showcase the impact of their work
in development programs.

Perceptions
on the high net-worth individuals' generosity
|
The
first-ever study on High Net-worth Individuals (HNWIs) in Pakistan provides
useful insights gained from the exploratory discussions with a selected group of
HNWIs about their giving behaviors and preferences. Philanthropic activities for
social development are spearheaded by high net worth individuals in Pakistan. It
is perceived that the generosity of HNWI is instrumental in bringing positive
change, improvement in quality of people life, and redressing social issues
within the country through the combination of their financial resources,
expertise, and influence. |

Qurbani
hides as an in-kind giving: A pilot survey in Karachi division - 2022
|
This
study is pioneering in investigating the Qurbani Hides as an in-kind giving that
provides a potential funding source for promoting philanthropic and economic
activities in the country. Given the challenges of data gaps on the subject, a
pilot survey was conducted in 266 hide collection centers of the Karachi
Division, comprising seven districts.
The findings reveal that the estimated value of Qurbani Hides is about PKR 1.78
billion in Karachi division that was determined by the market price of
sacrificial animals in the year 2022. The value would be much higher if
estimated value is extrapolated at national level. |

Doing good
index (DGI) 2024
|
PCP has continued its partnership with the Centre for Asian Philanthropy and
Society (CAPS) in implementing the DGI report 2024, an initiative designed to
foster additional financial and institutional backing for the social sector.
This research study involves 18 countries of the Asian region with the primary
objective to assess the enabling environment for increased philanthropic
contributions and social sector investments. |
|
The quantitative data collected from around 120 non-profit organizations
operating within Pakistan, and the qualitative information gathered through an
Expert Group Discussion would be used for analysis in the Pakistan Chapter of
the report. The expert group comprised of social sector experts, lawyers,
academicians, and government officials from the FBR and Ministry of Planning and
Development, who showed their views on the social, economic, legal and
environmental challenges of Social Delivery Organizations (SDOs) in the country.
Based on the data collected data from 18 countries, the Doing Good Index report
will be prepared by CAPS in 2024session was intended to expand the horizon of
the research, and obtain a holistic snapshot of philanthropic giving in the
country. |

Household
giving survey of Pakistan 2023 |
The PCP has conducted a Household Survey on giving practices and behavior of
individuals, covering about 12,000 households across Pakistan including AJ&K and
GBC regions. The survey tool included questions on the volume of giving in
different forms i.e. cash, kind, and time volunteered, as well as the
motivations and preferences of charitable giving. In this regard, a meeting with
Dr. Adil Najam, the lead research scholar of this study, was held in May, 2023
at PCP office to review and discuss the outcome of the survey to assess the
validity and reliability of survey data results.

Mapping of
universities’ philanthropic initiatives |
The
PCP’s initiative to map out the philanthropic activities of universities in
Pakistan has been a challenging task. Using various sources of information, data
on 170 universities out of a total 234 is compiled to showcase how these
institutions strive to support their communities and to attain positive social
change. These actions encompass areas such as scholarships and financial aid
provided to increase accessibility to education, research and advance knowledge
about community outreach and service programs. This enhances students’ knowledge
and practice to sustain and strengthen the institution's mission, and take
initiatives to tackle country’s issues. While the specific philanthropic
activities of each university may vary, a commitment to fostering educational
opportunities, research advancements, and social impact is demonstrated
collectively by these efforts. |
