COVID -19 Response: PCP and Give2Asia’s Collaboration Brings USD 40K Grant for NPOs

PCP in collaboration with Give2Asia (G2A) is calling for and facilitating the donors to support the communities impacted by Covid-19 through its network of certified NPOs. In August/ September, our generous corporate donor – Pepsi Co Foundation, has disbursed: US$ 20,500 to support epidemic response efforts in South and North Waziristan, benefiting 745 households or 4,470 individuals, and another US$ 17,797 to raise awareness about the challenges of food insecurity resulting from Covid-19 in Gilgit Baltistan.

Reckitt Benckiser (RB) Group of Companies Announces Grant of PKR 2.5 Million

Under another call for proposals, PCP is facilitating the grant of PKR 2.5 million from Reckitt Benckiser (RB) Group of Companies for the NPOs contributing towards achieving SDG 2 (zero hunger), SDG 3 (Good health and well-being) and SDG 6 (clean water and sanitation) in Pakistan.

Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy (PCP) is a designated Certification Agency by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Government of Pakistan vide S.R.O. No. 1116(1)/2003 dated December 18, 2003.

In accordance with the section 2(36) of Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs) working in Pakistan are required to seek approval of Commissioner Inland Revenue to be recognized as not for profit. LSO Gender Capacity Assessment in Gilgit, Baltistan and Chitral (GBC)

PCP has undertaken a project on gender equality assessment and responsiveness with reference to the programs & projects of LSOs in Gilgit, Baltistan and Chitral (GBC). It aims to study the COVID-19 impact and response of LSOs related to gender and their capacity building in issues identified around: (i) Gender equality, sensitivity and responsiveness and (ii) Sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) prevention and response. Based on data collected from a Survey Questionnaire,Individual Interviews and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), the study provides relevant information and a better understanding of issues surrounding gender sensitivity and gender based violence in the community and key areas where capacity building is needed to adapt to gender mainstreaming in the region. This project is supported by the generous contribution from the Department of Foreign Affairs,Trade & Development (DFATD) and Aga Khan Foundation, Canada (AKF,C).

CSOs Join Hands with the Government for Carrying out Flood Relief Activities in Sindh

This year, Pakistan has seen the most severe monsoon rains with more than 189 people killed and thousands of homes washed away in flooding across the country, according to the country's National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) (PDF) Karachi, a sprawling metropolis of more than 20 million people in Sindh province, was one of the worst-hit area by the urban flooding. Streets turned in to rivers, as the sheer volume of water quickly overloaded the city's dilapidated and poorly maintained drainage systems. Some of the civil society organizations (CSOs) have stepped forward to provide relief to the affected communities in Karachi and other parts of the province. Some key relief activities of CSOs are given below:

Kiran Foundation (KF) Karachi

KF distributed 100 ration bags in Lyari for flood affectees.

PKR 500K were raised for Khana Ghar which provided cooked food to families in Khuda Ki Basti, Yousuf Goth and Kahra Goth.

PKR 200K were raised and donated to Elaaj Trust for clearing out water from DHA and Clifton.

Funds were raised for Health and Nutrition Development Society (HANDS) to carry out activities for flood affectees in Karachi and Tharparkar which used the funds for provision of clean water, rations and cash coupons to the deserving families.

Make-A-Wish Foundation

This Foundation provided food packages to the families of “wish children” in areas of Korangi, Orangi Town, Lyari, Baldia Town and New Karachi. The food package contained Flour, Rice, Powder Milk, Tea, Sugar and Grains sufficient for a family of five for a month.

Shahid Afridi Foundation

Shahid Afridi Foundation supplied relief packs (comprising ration, cooked food, water, juice, Biscuits etc.) to over 3500 families in the areas of Memon Goth, Malir Creek, Surjani Town, Northern Bypass, Sorab Goth, and Gadap Town).

Hyderabad Relief and Rehabilitation Trust

150 bags of ration were distributed among the flood affected families in Karachi.

Over 800 patients were provided with the medical care through camps in Karachi and Thatta.

Thardeep Rural Development Programme (TRDP)

Distributed cooked food and drinking water among some 3,500 families trapped in flood affected areas of Dadu and Jamshoro.

Provided 2 boats for rescue operation.

Multipurpose 2.76 million cash grant was distributed among 230 families.

Distributed Hygiene kits among 250 families.

Provided mobility stick/Age assistive devices to 100 elderly and persons with disabilities.

Provided nonfood Item Kits to 800 families. Each kit contained plastic weaved floor mat, 2 Jerrycan 10 lit each, Tarpaulin sheet, Kitchen utensils, soap and detergents, ORS, Mosquito net, torch, and hygiene items.

Mobile medical camps were organized and medicines were provided free of any charges.

Provided dewatering pumps and a double cabin vehicle to district administration in Tharparker and Umerkot.

Child Life Foundation

Despite the rains and flooding in urban and rural Sindh, Child Life Emergency Response Centers continue to function at government tertiary care hospitals throughout Sindh and Balochistan.
